10/21 – I started this yesterday on the ride home from NJ using a skein of my DCS Pigskin Party colorway, Kickin’ Up Leaves because I thought it might work up nicely in a self-striping. I was focused on understanding the pattern for the full first repeat and then seeing if it was going to become intuitive in the second, which it was. However, I’m not sure this yarn is the right match for the pattern, since it’s so wide and the stripes in this colorway are rather narrow. I’m also not sure the fabric wouldn’t look better if it was using a D instead of the E the pattern called for.

I really don’t want to rip completely out, because the first row going into the chain is always a pain in the butt. I may rip back to after the first row of the pattern and then go down to a D and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, I may rip it out and modify it to not be as wide, possibly by having 5 stitches between the increase and decrease sections instead of 7, or by eliminating one the three pattern repeats and having it just be two across. Still thinking about that.

Later on 10/21 – Nevermind. I frogged it.
I started over on a D hook and am using a bunch of different colors to reflect how the sample is made/the pattern is written. I already feel better about it.

11/5 – I like how the pattern is working up in the different colors. I think I’m going to use a different color for each stripe, as I’ve got a ton of my semi-solids on Bounce that I can use. The only thing I’m not sure of is the gauge. I feel like it still looks loose, even going down to a D. I think I might try the next section with a C because that’s the only think I can think to do to make the fabric tighter — especially that border row in Wisp. (Curiously, the picture I took of the first try has a C hook in the photo, but I really don’t think I used a C at all.)
