9/4 – I’m basically using the chart from this pattern and using it in a hat. Need to figure out my stitch count yet. I’m planning to take this to work on during our Isle of Man trip, and it will also be a Pigskin Party project. The yarn colors are both from my upcoming Suicide Prevention Month collection.

9/8 – Cast this on last evening waiting for our flight out of Philly. I cast on 90 stitches on US4s, the realized I need two more stitches for the 2×2 ribbing to with so I just increased at the end of the first round. I then decreased those two stitches away during the first round following the ribbing, back down to 90, using a US 6, which is also what I’m using for the colorwork. It’s looking good so far, but I’m in the last round of the colorwork and I’ve goofed up somehow, but my lack of sleep on the overnight flight isn’t letting me figure out where my mistake is, so I put it away and will look at it later when I have my wits about me.

Later…after a good nap, I went back to this, figured out my issue (which was only the last two stitches :face_with_rolling_eyes:) and finished the chart. I switched to US 5s for doing the black above the colorwork. I did 3 rounds straight then started my decreases, 9 sets of 10 stitches, decreasing every other round until 20 st then k2tog.

I’m really happy with how it turned out, and it fits perfectly. I knew as I was working it though that something was different than it should have been. I realized after finishing the colorwork that I reversed the colors the way they were intended, using black for the moon motifs and the yellow/orange for the background rather than the other way around as it was in the original cowl. I know I ended up doing this because of the chart having the motifs in black, which confused the issue, but I honestly like it this way. It makes the hat more colorful rather than being mostly black, and the moons really show up clearly. It’s kind of like they’re against an outer space sky or something.  I’m thinking Emma will be fine with it this way. If not, I guess I have a new hat.

I won’t be able to weight my leftovers and figure out yardage until I get home, but it is officially my first PSP finished project for the year! And it’ll get a good block and better pictures than the crappy nighttime hotel bed shot at home too.
