Crocheted Plant Mat #2
Materials:
Yarn: Various leftovers/small bits of handspun
Hook: I
Details:
Pigskin Party Notes:
No sponsor products to speak of. But I’m using a lot of random handspun small skeins that are anywhere from DK to Aran in weight, so I’m conservatively averaging that out to be 2 yds per gram for the sake of figuring yardage.
Total grams used: 367
X 2 yd per gram = 734 yds
———-
Using the same “pattern” I used for my first plant mat this year, which you can find in the notes here: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/fibernymph/plant-table-mat
1/14- So far I’m up to 262 grams used, approx 524 yards. Sizewise, it measures 35″ x 18″; the size I need for the table is 46″ x 22″. So I’m about 60% finished. At some point, I’ll need to stop adding on to the width and just add to the short ends to make it longer, unless I want it to overhang the front and back, which isn’t optimal with cats that like to grab dangly things.
I have worked through all of the remaining yarn that was originally in my handspun minis basket. I’ve gone through my stash and found some more random minis (mostly leftovers from bobbins), plus I have a set of 6 minis that I spun on my EEW Nano 2 mini spinner on 2023 that were from batts from the KSF Batt Club I used to be in. These are perfect yarns for this project, so I’m adding them to the basket too!
1/17 – Just measured again and I’ve overshot my width goal, as I’m at 24″. :face_with_rolling_eyes: (Length is currently 39.5″) I’m going to finish this round and then just with on the ends to get the necessary length. I didn’t think the small amount of front-back overhang will be a big deal.
I’m going to be sad to finish this though. I’m really enjoying it. That probably means another mat will be in my future.
1/21 – Done! Finished size is approximately 24″ x 45″. It pulls in slightly in the center on an sides, but once blocked, it should be fine. And really, sitting on a table with plants on it, who really cares? :joy:
I’m super happy to have used 367 grams of small handspun bits for this! I only have a couple small skeins left, and I’m sure they’ll find a project eventually.
