12/13 – After finally landing on a yarn that will look good for this pattern in colors that Emma will like, I’ve started! All acrylic yarn is never my first choice, but I do love the ombre effect of this yarn, and while it might not be the warmest, it’s definitely soft and squishy and I think it’ll be cozy and comfy for her to wear around her neck, and also lightweight enough to leave on at work if she wants to. And for my part, the yarn isn’t at all unpleasant to work with. I think it’ll work up pretty quickly. I’m also pretty sure this is the same yarn I used for Kelly’s shawl.

12/14 – I stopped the front triangle a little short of what the directions said for adult because I didn’t want the tube part to be as open as it looks in the picture. I figured I can also do some decreases in the hood if necessary for a closer fit.

I’m really enjoying the process of making this, and the pattern is written fine, but as with so many crochet patterns, it seems that every designer has their own way of referring to what they want you to do, and it isn’t always easy to follow. It took me quite a bit to figure out how she had the sizing explained, but once I got it, it made sense. She does include pictures for certain things, which is super helpful.

12/19 – I finished the hood this morning. I did do decreases every other round for a while until it seemed reasonably closer to the face when pulled up. I think my finished stitch count was 82, so I decreased 24 stitches total. (Despite thinking I’d not done as many rows as called for in the shawl part, I did end up picking up 106 stitches, and it is measuring 20″ in that lower part.)

Current weight of the finished piece is 288 gm. I plan to add fringe.

12/25 – Fringe added, gift given!
