Fair Weather…Mat?
Materials:
Yarn: Fibernymph Dye Works Bounce, 10 10-gram micro skeins that I’d experimentally dyed a few years ago. Literally used all of the yarn except about 2 yards of the last skein.
Hook: H
Pattern: Fair Weather Cowl, by Jennifer Dickerson/FiberFlux (pattern is on Ravelry here; I started making all of these cowls from the video tutorial on YouTube though.)
Details:
I really just wanted to crochet for the comfort of it, and this pattern has become my go to because I have it memorized.
I wanted to try it using two fingering weights held together, since that’s a good way to use up scraps and minis. I’d made a DK weight version of the cowl earlier this year, and while I prefer the sport weight fabric better, I wanted to see what the doubled fingering weight was like. I’m using ten 10-gm minis that I’d test dyed a few years ago in an effort to get micro stripes. I didn’t like the outcome of the yarn, but I thought it would be fun to play with fit this experiment.
I’m 3/5 of the way through the yarn and it’s clear this will not be enough yarn to make a cowl. Since the yarn is all dyed in the same way though, I didn’t really want to try to add other yarns to it. Thus I think I’ll end up using it as a mat of since sort. It doesn’t matter, I’m enjoying the process.
7/17 – Done! I used all 10 10-gm minis with only 2 yd left of the last one, having had to finish the last row by using both ends of what was left of the last color held together. It worked out really well, I was able to use up these odd skeins, I got to relax with a crochet project, and I have a fun, funky mat to use it give away. Win!
I am thinking it could maybe use an edging, but I’d need to find appropriate yarn for that, and honestly the edges are pretty neat, so I’m not super concerned about it.
