Halloween Wind Spinners

I saw a picture on IG of one of these that Aquilla from the A Lefty Knitter Podcast made, and I was like I IMMEDIATELY NEED TO MAKE MANY MANY OF THESE!

The pattern name is Anemos Wind Spinner. I bought the pattern on Etsy (it is by Brunaticality on Etsy — she also has a tutorial video on YouTube that you could totally use and not buy the pattern, but having the pattern at the time worked better for me because I was watching a movie with Bill at the time and I couldn’t watch a tutorial super well, so I started with the tutorial video and finished with the pattern, LOL…plus, I am totally happy to pay the designer for her work! The yarn I’m using is all leftovers of Ridgetop DK…the gray, purple, green, and orange are all leftover from the Halloween sweater I made for Emma a few years ago, and the yellow is from the Beekeeper Cardi I made as a booth sample years ago.

So far I’ve made five spinners. After reading the instructions for the first one, I’ve made the rest without having to look because it’s super memorizable. The first one I made was super long…I think I chained 80 (I think in the video she said to do 80 cm, not 80 chains though LOL) and that one used 51 grams total of yarn, not including the tassel. I haven’t weighed any of the others yet, and I probably should have before I started adding tassels and beads, but I’ll figure it out later. :}

I will say that I didn’t watch the video or read through how she did the loop at the top end or how she did her tassels or added the beads until AFTER I’d made these first five spinners, and I did do things a little differently, but honestly, it works out fine. The only thing I might do is add a single strand of yarn/string to the crochet loop at the top if I want it to spin more, but that’s not a problem.

I AM SO OBSESSED WITH THESE!!!

8/31 – I ended up making 6 of these in total with the Halloween colored yarns I had on hand. I’ve since given most of them to Emma, but I’m considering this batch of them done.

I never did calculate yarn used, but I know the longest one used 51 grams for the spinner itself, so based on the comparative lengths of them, I’d say the next longest used approx. 38 grams, the next two longest would have been about 25 grams, and the two shortest would have been about 15 grams. So that’s 169 grams, or 338 yards. The tassles were about 8 yards each tassle (based on the number of wraps I did around the CD case), so 48 yards for tassles. So all together that makes 338 yards for the spinners plus 48 yards for the tassles = 386 yards. (Whew! all the mathing!)
