Handspun Fair Weather-ish Cowl
Materials:
Yarn: Handspun…I have no record of whose fiber this was, but it is VERY old stash, as I do believe I bought it at a Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival back in maybe 2009/2010? The yarn totals about 100 grams, and its definitely got a silk or tencel or possibly sea silk kind of element to it.
Hook: D
Pattern: Fair Weather Cowl by Jennifer Dickerson/Fiber Flux (pattern is available on Ravelry here, but I learned to make it just by watching her YouTube tutorial here)
Details:
I needed an easy project to work on one night while watching a movie. I had this skein of handspun already wound up, so I decided to try this cowl with handspun.
I cast on more stitches than usual (I don’t remember how many…I’ll have to count), and then got started. In my first row that should have been the 3DC clusters, I goofed and did 3 HDCs instead, because I’d been doing HDCs for the pumpkins I just made. Rather than rip back, I decided to do five rows of HDCs and the 5 rows of DCs and switch back and forth. The difference isn’t super noticeable, but it’s a variation on the theme anyway.
8/21 – Finished! Once joined, the circumference is about 22 1/2″. It’s close enough around my neck to keep out the wind without being too close to feel choking. I’ll probably fold the top of the cowl in, since it’s so tall, making it even better at blocking the wind. I’m pretty happy with how this turned out! I used up all but less than a gram of the yarn (it wouldn’t even register on my scale. LOL)
