Yarns I’m using and their starting weights:
**Destination Yarn – Fall Run**
Skein #1 – 108 gm
Skein #2 – 105 gm
**Destination Yarn – Pine Forest – 100 gm**
**Fibernymph Dye Works** – Buttercup – 104 gm
**Malabrigo Rios – ?? (Tag is gone, purple/red)** – 100 gm
**Malabrigo Rios**- Fuchsia – 102 gm
I’ll also be using a variety of pink fingering weights held double, minis and leftovers, which I’ll weight as I go and record the yardage for their specific sections. — (10/28 – Nope. Decided to use another skein of Rios in Fuchsia instead. Better for consistency. )
I’m aiming to make this a big, squishy shawl, so I may end up doing more sections than I wrote the pattern to have. We’ll see. I’m planning for the Fall Run colorway to be my “main” color that I’ll alternate from side to side on the shawl. I’ve got three more skeins of this colorway, so I’ll definitely have enough. I’ll probably make the tassels with it too.
I’m really excited to make this for Heaven now that I finally have a plan. 🙂
11/14 – All of the knitting is finished and all ends are woven in. I still need to make the tassels, but I’ve calculated yardage used for the shawl itself. Need to block it. Even unlocked though, in really happy with how it looks!
11/16 – Holy moly. Once I soaked this and spun out the water, I started laying it out to block and it was huuugggeeee! I have nowhere in the house where I could actually last this out to block it with wires and pins/combs, and it’s spilling over the what’s of my blocking mats. LOL I’ve basically just laid it out and zhuzhed it into shape. Laid out, it’s approximately 8′ (!!!) in wingspan and 33″ down the center. I know it’ll spring in a little once it’s off the mat, but wow….it has definitely fulfilled the mission of being a large, squishy shawl!
Considering the shawl’s size and Heaven’s rather diminutive stature, I think I’m going to skip the tassels. To be balanced with the size of the shawl, they’d need to really be big, and I feel like that would be a pain when they try to curl up in it if they end up leaning on them or sitting on them.
