Twisteria Hat

Ok, this only took four days to crochet. It was a fun project, and for the most part, I made it according to the pattern with no mods.
I did goof up at the point where you fill the top part of the hat, and I didn’t have the working ends of the other two colors held to the outside like the picture showed, but instead they were coming down through the center, which made it much more difficult to pull them to scrunch down the upper sections of the hat later. In the end, when I was finished with the hat, I just threaded a piece of yarn through the back of the hat and scrunched things down further. It’s not overly visible.
Crocheting in the wire was not as difficult as I’d expected it to be, however what I found was that after doing the surface crochet spiral, it kind of affected the tension of the brim fabric and it wants to be a little more wibbly wobbly than it was before the surface stitches were added. They were definitely easier to add with the wire in, so I’m not sure what the answer is there, but it’s something to keep in mind if I made it again.
The only thing I did change was I chained 4 for the picots instead of 3 because the 3 chain ones I tried didn’t show up very well.
I really like the FO as a *thing*. Like it would make a great Halloween decoration to sit around somewhere. While it fits me fine (I did not make any changes to affect the fit), but the top stuffed part of the hat is so much smaller than the fitted part of the hat that I feel like it looks funny on me. Jury is still out as to whether or not I’ll actually wear it to the event I was making it for. I’m also thinking that decorating it as I first thought I would might just make it harder to wear. Have to think about that.
10/6 – In the end, I did end up wearing it to the event I made it for, and I also zhuzhhed (sp?? LOL) it up with some silk flowers and leaves I had laying around. It was fun. It was also hot to wear after a while, despite not being wool. LOL I did not put in the drawstring that she suggests, but I didn’t have any problem with it staying on my head.
