I decided to try and be a joiner and take part in Marie’s last 4 Day sweater KAL, though I have no illusion of getting it done in 4 days. Being part of Knit Camp, I did have access to it earlier than the public start, but I didn’t see that right away. Then I decided to actually swatch, which I did twice. I swatched using my Hip Recover Combo Spin, which was spot on for gauge, but I wasn’t convinced the yarn would look good with the lace. Then I decided to swatch with this Lyonesse that I’ve had for several years. I’d swatched for something else and apparently started it too, because the one call is yarn had clearly been knit and ripped. Anyway, Watermark calls for a light DK. This is a heavy fingering. My swatch was so far off, but I decided I’d make it work by modifying as needed. Then when I went to cast on, I remembered my experiences using a smaller needle for my purl rows, so I started using a 3 for the WS rows and a 4 for the RS rows, and now, one lace repeat into the sweater, I’m much closer.

I cast on for the 4th size, assuming I was going to be working with a larger gauge, and that might be a problem I need to deal with. Not sure if I can just go up to the next size easily or not. I’ll look into that tomorrow. But right now I’m happy with how the fabric looks, and it’s a very enjoyable stitch motif.

7/5 – I’m three chart repeats into the sweater now and thoroughly enjoying it!
